Irrfan Khan passed away in April 2020 at the age of 53, two years after being diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumour. At the time of his passing, Priyanka Chopra shared an emotional message honouring his life and legacy. She wrote, “The world will always remember your legacy #irrfankhan. You fought like a warrior.. Rest in peace my friend.. My condolences to the family,” alongside a photo from their film. That post garnered over 2.3 million likes.
Irrfan’s last message to his fans came during the promotions of Angrezi Medium, a film he couldn’t promote in person due to his declining health. Despite this, he recorded a moving voice note for his audience, sharing his thoughts and love for the film.
“Hello brothers and sisters… This is me, Irrfan. Today I’m with you but also not with you,” he began, in a heartfelt message. Reflecting on his experience making Angrezi Medium, he said, Angrezi Medium was a special film for him and he wanted to promote it “with as much as love as we have put in the making of it.” Directed by Homi Adajania, the film was shot while Irrfan was undergoing treatment for his illness.
“There is a saying… ‘When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade out of it.’ It sounds good. But when life actually puts lemon in your hands, it becomes really tough to make lemonade,” he had said in his distinctive voice.
“But what is the choice apart from being positive in tough situations? We have made this film with the same positivity. And I hope this film will teach you, make you laugh, make you cry, and then make you laugh again. Enjoy the trailer and be kind to each other… And yes, wait for me,” he had signed off.
Irrfan continues to be remembered as one of the finest actors in Indian cinema, with a legacy that lives on through his remarkable performances and the impact he had on the industry.
