A 33-year-old music producer from Japan, known as Honkon, had spent the last decade saving money to buy his dream car, a Ferrari 458 Spider, worth around ₹2.5 crore. He finally got the keys on April 16.
But just one hour later, his dream turned into a nightmare.
While driving the brand-new Ferrari on the Shuto Expressway in Tokyo, Honkon noticed something was wrong. He quickly pulled over, only to discover that the car had caught fire.
Thankfully, he escaped safely, and no one was hurt. Firefighters managed to control the flames in 20 minutes — but by then, almost the entire car was destroyed, leaving just the front bumper intact.
There was no crash involved. The reason for the fire is not yet clear, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Police are now investigating what happened.
“My Ferrari burned to ashes”
Sharing his shock and sadness online, Honkon wrote on X (formerly Twitter):
“My Ferrari burned to ashes an hour after delivery. I bet I’m the only one in all of Japan to experience this kind of trouble.”
Speaking to The Sun, he recalled the fear he felt during the fire:
“I was really scared that it would explode.”

Viral reactions on social media
Photos and videos of the burning Ferrari quickly spread online. On X alone, the story got over 36 million views, with many users commenting in shock and sympathy.
One user said: “Ferrariiiiiiii…I’m so glad that Honkon is safe. Another added: “It’s common for a large engine to catch fire if you rev it for no reason, even if it’s a Ferrari. A third person wrote: “Welcome to Japan where even dreams come with smoke effects.”
