The Delhi Police have introduced a new rule to reduce noise in the city. From now on, people must get written permission from the police before using any loudspeaker or sound system in public places.
If you’re planning a party, event, or celebration and want to use loudspeakers, you can’t just plug them in and start playing music. You now have to take written approval from the police first, even if you’re renting speakers from a tent house.
The police said, “Tent and generator suppliers must not provide any equipment to users unless the customer has written permission from the local police.” If they don’t follow this rule, legal action will be taken.
According to the order, people can’t use loudspeakers at night, unless it’s inside a closed place like a conference hall, auditorium, community hall, or in a public emergency.
The night hours are from 10 pm to 6 am.
To control noise, the police have set rules on how loud sounds can be in different areas. These sound levels are measured in something called decibels (A).
Here are the limits:
Industrial areas:
Daytime (6 am to 10 pm): 75 decibels
Night (10 pm to 6 am): 70 decibels
Residential areas:
Daytime: 55 decibels
Night: 45 decibels
Silence zones (like near hospitals or schools):
Daytime: 50 decibels
Night: 40 decibels
Also, if a public event is using a loudspeaker, the sound at the edge of that area can’t be more than 10 decibels above the normal level, and never more than 75 decibels.
