It was predicted in this column that Jaat will take an opening of Rs. 7-9 crores with an outside chance of hitting Rs. 10 crores mark. Well, the collections have been on expected lines as Rs. 9.62 crores came in. This is a decent number in isolation and if looked at in the current box office scenario, then it’s actually good because footfalls are so hard to come by. Films are not just struggling; they are absolutely failing big time left, right and centre, and hence even something as decent as this is like a welcome relief.

The film has worked mainly in the interiors and while at the single screens there have been footfalls, somehow multiplexes are behind. In fact, despite its title, a major city like Gurgaon, which is core multiplex driven, has hardly shown any collections when the situation should have been much better here. However, the fact that there are other areas where the film has found its audience is a good sign, more so because this is an extended weekend and there is a lot more that will come now by Sunday.

To think about it, Sunny Deol has managed these numbers as a solo lead at the age of 67 and this is a feat that no other Bollywood superstar has ever managed before. All others from the early 80s have moved on to ensemble affairs and are playing character roles today. In the utter drought that Bollywood is facing currently, Sunny Deol could well emerge as another top hero if he goes on to succeed with Lahore 1947 as well.
