A shocking incident happened in the Bharati Layout area of Suddaguntepalya, Bengaluru, on April 3. CCTV footage that was shared on social media shows what happened. Around 1:52 am, two women were walking on a narrow street when a man came close to them. Suddenly, he pushed one of the women against a wall and then quickly ran away.
After watching the footage, Bengaluru Police registered a suo motu case, which means they acted on their own without waiting for a formal complaint. A police officer said, “The video clearly shows the man molesting one of the women and running away. We have booked a case of stalking and sexual harassment under the relevant sections, and efforts are underway to trace the victim so we can file a formal complaint.”
Absolutely shameful and deeply disturbing.
This incident isn’t just an attack on one woman — it’s an attack on the very idea of safety in our cities. The fact that such crimes happen in broad daylight in #Bengaluru reflects a serious failure of law & order under the Karnataka gvt pic.twitter.com/FmmqpIl01H— Dr Padma Veerapaneni ( Modi Ka Parivar) (@DrPadmaofficial) April 7, 2025
Home Minister’s statement
Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara is facing strong criticism for his remarks about the incident. Instead of showing serious concern, he said, “Incidents like these tend to happen here and there in a big city like this. Whatever legal action needs to be taken will be done in accordance with the law. I have also instructed our commissioner to increase beat patrolling.”
Many people believe his comment makes the crime sound normal and not serious. Critics, including activists and social media users, say such statements from senior leaders may discourage victims from coming forward and reduce the importance of women’s safety in public spaces.
