Stock market holiday March 31, 2025: Are NSE, BSE open or closed today for Eid al-Fitr 2025?

The Indian stock market, including the BSE and the National Stock Exchange (NSE), is closed today, Monday, March 31, in observance of Eid al-Fitr 2025. With trading already halted over the weekend on March 29 (Saturday) and March 30 (Sunday), traders got an extended break over the weekend before trading resumes on Tuesday, April 1.

All segments, including equities, derivatives, currency markets, securities lending and borrowing (SLB), and electronic gold receipts (EGR), remain suspended for the holiday. Market participants are advised to plan their trades accordingly.

Eid al-Fitr 2025


Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan and is one of the most significant Islamic festivals celebrated across India. As it is a nationwide holiday, financial markets, government offices, and several businesses remain closed in observance of the occasion.

NSE holidays in March and April 2025

Investors should note that the Indian stock exchanges operate from Monday to Friday, with weekends and designated public holidays as non-trading days. Here’s a look at the upcoming stock market holidays in March and April 2025:

  • March 31, 2025 (Monday): Eid al-Fitr
  • April 10, 2025 (Thursday): Shri Mahavir Jayanti
  • April 14, 2025 (Monday): Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Jayanti
  • April 18, 2025 (Friday): Good Friday

Looking ahead: 2025 Market Holidays

Markets will also be shut on May 1 for Maharashtra Day, followed by closures for Independence Day (August 15) and Ganesh Chaturthi (August 27).

The final quarter of 2025 includes breaks for Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra (October 2), Diwali festivities (October 21-22), and Prakash Gurpurb (November 5). Trading will conclude for the year with a holiday on Christmas (December 25).

Trading will resume on Tuesday, April 1, as per regular market hours from 9:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. IST.
