Aided by stable weekdays, The Diplomat has managed to come close to Rs. 20 crores mark after its first week at the box office. The film managed to have close to Rs. 1.50 crores come on each of the weekdays and that allowed around Rs. 6 crores more to be added to its weekend total. Yes, on Monday the film did see a major drop due to which the momentum did shift. Had Rs. 2 crores or more been collected on a daily basis then it would have been a very different scenario for the film.
However, the good part is that the film will now be aiming for at least Rs. 30 crores lifetime when prior to release it seemed like a Rs. 20 crores runner at best. The film arrived with hardly any hype and hence with Holi factor coming in to play, it at least got some push for itself. The word of mouth amongst those who have watched the film has been positive as well and that further helped stability in major multiplexes of urban centres.
While Rs. 1.44 crores came on Thursday, today also the film will cross at least Rs. 1.25 crores. Moreover, there will be some push in numbers tomorrow and day after which will result in another fair weekend. So far, the John Abraham starrer stands at Rs. 19.45 crores and while a lifetime of Rs. 40-50 crores would have taken it into the successful zone, one waits to see where does The Diplomat eventually land.
