So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

DEBBY FRIDAY – “1/17”
Debby Friday is still working on her follow-up to her 2023 Polaris Prize-winning album GOOD LUCK, but she’s just shared this new single ahead of a UK/EU tour. She says “1/17” is “based on an amalgamation of two experiences that I had. The first was when I won the Polaris Prize at Massey Hall, which felt like a peak moment in my career. The second was when, nine months later, I played a festival show to absolutely no one in the audience. I’ve spent the past year detaching myself from the highs and lows of this business and trying to see everything as a sign. Of what? I don’t know. But I’m sure in the end, it’ll all mean something.”

Bnny announced a deluxe edition of her 2024 album One Million Love Songs. One Million and Three Love Songs is due out April 4 via Fire Talk, and she’s shared a reimagined version of “Good Stuff” featuring Wild Pink. “‘Good Stuff’ is one my favorite songs I’ve heard in a while, so I was really excited to work with Jess on an alternate version,” John Ross says. “I’ve listened to it on repeat so many times. It’s such a dreamy song and I thought some heavy baritone guitars could be a different approach for it and I’m really excited about how it turned out.” Jessica Viscius adds, “I really loved John’s latest album, Dulling The Horns. His lyrics are like little poems and often funny too. So I was super excited when he was down to collab. He added such a great verse to ‘Good Stuff’ that I wanted to turn it into a call-and-response. The guitars and keys he layered in give the song this whole new dimension. It was already one of my favorites, and now I’m falling in love with it all over again.”

The first single, “Shadows,” has vocals from Elena Tonra (Ex:Re/Daughter), piano from Hinako Omori, and bass from Ayse Hassan. “What I love about this track is that it’s got this darkness and lightness at the same time,” Fay says. “It’s got this real thunder and lightning energy. There’s a sparkly piano, very light and delicate, and then this noise bass that runs through it. Elena’s vocal is just completely exquisite, as well as her lyrics.”
