A 28-year-old man from Kerala died after swallowing a plastic packet of MDMA, a high-value synthetic drug, while attempting to escape from the police in Kozhikode. The incident occurred on Friday after police received information from locals about drug use in the area.
MDMA tablets are also commonly known as Ecstasy pills and are stimulant drugs that can cause hallucinations.
Upon spotting the police, the man, identified as Shanid, attempted to flee and ingested the packet of drugs in the process. He later informed the police about swallowing the substance and was immediately taken to the General Hospital in Thamarassery. He was later shifted to Kozhikode Medical College, where doctors detected the presence of plastic packets inside his stomach and recommended urgent surgery.
However, Shanid reportedly refused to consent to the procedure. When the police contacted his father for approval, he too denied consent, allegedly stating that Shanid had multiple cases against him and had not shown any signs of reform even at the age of 28.
Doctors confirmed that Shanid passed away at 11 am on Saturday. Thamarassery police have registered a case against him for drug trafficking and are continuing their investigation into the matter.
