Over 100 flights were delayed and ten cancelled as dense fog resulted in zero or low visibility conditions in Delhi-NCR region on Friday.
Zero visibility has been reported across almost a dozen airports in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh today. According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi’s Palam Airport, Punjab’s Amristar Airport, Varanasi, Agra and Lucknow airports in Uttar Pradesh reported zero visibility at 5:30 am.
As many as 117 flights were delayed at Delhi’s IGI airport at 7 am with 76 flights reporting an average delay time of 20 minutes, according to flight tracking website Flightradar24.
Delhi Airport issued a passenger advisory amid dense fog at 5:30 am.
“While landings and take offs continue at Delhi Airport, flights that are not CAT III compliant may get affected,” read the update posted on Delhi Airport’s official X account.
“Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information. Any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted,” it further said.
When a flight is CAT III compliant, then it can take off or land in low visibility conditions.
