A 30-year-old man was arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district for allegedly issuing a death threat to state Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on social media. The accused also threatened Mahakumbh 2025, saying he would not let it happen.

The accused, identified as Maijan Raza, also made inappropriate comments about Ram Temple on social media. Later, he was seen apologising for his social media posts in one of the videos released by the Bareilly Police.

“Hindus, your Maha Kumbh is approaching, we will not let it happen,” one of Raza’s Facebook posts read. The Mahakumbh Mela is being held in Prayagraj from January 13 to February 26. Maha Kumbh is one of the largest religious congregations in the world, and around 45 crore people are likely to take a dip in Ganga for a spiritual rejuvenation during the event.

After the social media posts by Raza, local VHP leader Pandit KK Shankhdhar complained to the police to take action against the accused youth.

Upon receiving a complaint about the social media posts, a team of Bareilly Police launched an investigation and Raza was arrested on Saturday, January 11.

According to the police, Raza is a resident of Bareilly’s Prem Nagar area and studied in one of the prestigious schools of the city. After Raza’s arrest, the Bareilly Police also released a video of him where he can be seen apologising for his social media posts and promising not to write any inappropriate comments in future.

“I will not post anything in the future. I made a mistake. Please forgive me. I will respect everyone, sir…,” Raza can be heard saying in the video.

Speaking about the entire case, Bareilly Police’s Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Pankaj Kumar said, “In the Prem Nagar police station, a case numbered 16/25 was registered. Maijan Raza alias Faiz, son of Aslam, a resident of the Talab Kila area, made threatening and unlawful statements against another religion, a temple, and the Chief Minister. A case has been filed in this regard. The accused has been arrested, and necessary legal actions are being taken.”
