Speaking about the collaboration, Bhola Nath Singh, Governing Committee Member of HIL and Secretary General of Hockey India, expressed confidence in the league’s broadcast strategy. “The partnership with Doordarshan is a testament to our vision of promoting hockey as *India ka khel*. With DD’s unparalleled reach, we are ensuring that no fan is left behind,” he stated.
While Doordarshan was the first broadcaster to join hands with HIL, Singh reassured that private broadcasters are also optimistic about the league’s prospects. “Our strategy prioritises maximum coverage and engagement. We will have two linear broadcast partners and multiple streaming platforms to cater to diverse demographics. Details about additional partners will be announced soon,” Singh said.
The league promises to deliver world-class production quality, expert commentary, and in-depth analysis, ensuring fans enjoy an immersive and visually engaging experience.
The financial sustainability of the HIL, a key focus for stakeholders, extends beyond broadcasting revenues. Singh outlined a robust sponsorship model, innovative partnerships, and a strong emphasis on digital and on-ground fan engagement as critical components of the league’s viability.
“The resurgence of hockey, especially after India’s consecutive Olympic medal wins, has sparked immense interest from corporate sponsors and fans alike. This momentum, coupled with meticulous planning, ensures the league’s long-term success,” he added. Hockey India is expected to announce its title sponsor shortly, further solidifying the league’s commercial foundation. In October, Hockey India officially relaunched the HIL after a seven-year hiatus. The 2024-25 edition will mark the return of the men’s hockey league and the debut of a standalone women’s hockey league.
Starting in 2024-25, the HIL will feature eight men’s teams and six women’s teams, with the women’s league running concurrently with the men’s competition.
Prominent sports entities have already invested in franchises across both leagues. JSW Sports, SG Sports and Entertainment (owned by former Indian tennis star Mahesh Bhupathi), and Navoyam Sports Ventures are among the early investors.
