Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar recently took a trip down memory lane as he celebrated the 18th anniversary of his iconic film, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (KANK). The director shared a nostalgic post on Instagram, filled with behind-the-scenes glimpses and heartfelt reflections.

Johar expressed a deep personal connection to the film, stating, “KANK was the road that I need not have taken but it was the best decision I made to take it… till date!” He acknowledged the film’s significant impact on his career and personal growth, highlighting the support and camaraderie he shared with the cast and crew.
Reacting to the post, celebrated designer Manish Malhotra wrote, “A film before its times .. love KANK and all those wonderful memories of our long long New York shoot,” in the comments section.
Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, Abhishek Bachchan, and Preity Zinta, was a bold exploration of complex relationships and unconventional narratives. The film received mixed reviews upon release.
Having said that, it is worth mentioning here that once Karan Johar, in an exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama, revealed that his mother Hiroo was scared after watching Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. He told us, “She was silent after KANK. She walked out and didn’t say anything. One week later, she asked me, ‘Can you explain why you had to be so extreme with the subject?’ I said it’s my belief. She said ‘I won’t say anything. But when I saw it, I got very scared’. That’s what she said. She’s very honest with me.”
Speaking of the professional front, Karan’s last directorial big-screen release was Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, which was released last year.
