Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday wrote to his West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee over the death of IIT-Kharagpur student Faizan Ahmed. Sarma requested Mamata Banerjee to hand over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
In the letter, the Assam Chief Minister said in view of the “shocking findings of the latest forensic report, it is imperative that the perpetrators of the horrific crime as well as any other person involved in concealing the crime are brought to book”.
“According to the second forensic report, there was a gunshot wound on the upper left side of Late Faizan Ahmed’s neck and a stab wound on the right side of his neck,” Sarma said.
This would ensure “justice to the deceased and closure to the grief-stricken parents”, he added.
Faizan Ahmed was a resident of Tinsukia in Assam. His semi-decomposed body was found in a hostel on October 14, 2022. His death was claimed by the IIT-Kharagpur authorities to be a case of suicide.
However, his parents claimed that they had observed injury marks on his body.
The latest forensic report has claimed that the 23-year-old mechanical engineering student was allegedly murdered.
There was a gunshot wound on the upper left side of Faizan’s neck and a stab wound on the right side of his neck, according to the forensic report by Dr Ajay Gupta who conducted the latest post-mortem on the exhumed body.
