Pocket FM moves Delhi HC against Disney+ Hotstar over alleged copyright violation

Audio entertainment platform Pocket FM has filed a suit against video streaming platform Disney+ Hotstar in the Delhi High Court over alleged copyright violations of its audio series ‘Yakshini‘.Pocket FM has sought an interim injunction against Disney+ Hotstar’s parent Novi Digital Entertainment. It has requested the court to direct the streaming platform to pull down the trailer of the web series.

The matter is listed for Thursday before the bench of Justice Neena Bansal Krishna. Disney+ Hotstar is expected to file its reply before the bench.

In its plea dated June 11, Pocket FM has claimed that it owns the copyright to ‘Yakshini’, which has been available on its platform since May 2021.

It alleged that Disney+ Hotstar’s Telugu web series, also titled ‘Yakshini’, has many similarities with its audio series.

The video streaming platform has already released the promo for the web series, which is slated to stream beginning June 14.In its plea, Pocket FM submitted that the depiction of ‘Yakshini’ in Disney+ Hotstar’s web series is similar to its audio series. It added that Yakshini’s entry from another world is also a common element in both the shows.
