The Andhra Pradesh government has taken another vital step towards establishing India’s first ‘Quantum Computing Village’ in Amaravati, with a high-level meeting convened at the State Secretariat under the supervision of the Real-Time Governance Society (RTGS) on Tuesday.

The proposed 50-acre facility in Amaravati, already announced by the state government earlier, will be designed as a pioneering ecosystem to advance research, development, and collaboration in the field of quantum computing. The recent meeting focused on finalising infrastructure, ecosystem design, and technical requirements for the project’s rollout.

Key players, including representatives from IBM, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), and Larsen & Toubro (L&T), engaged in in-depth discussions on the upcoming campus. L&T is set to construct an Iconic Building, which will house advanced quantum systems to be provided by IBM. The facility is intended to be expandable to meet evolving technological needs over the coming decades.

Bhaskar Katamneni, Secretary of RTGS, emphasised the project’s scale and ambition. “This Quantum Village will be a world-class facility: India’s window to the future of computing,” he said. He added that the campus will feature a dedicated on-site data centre for high-performance computing, and a collaborative ecosystem where institutions and companies can access and share cutting-edge quantum computing resources.

The initial setup will include IBM’s Quantum System Two, with infrastructure specifications to be finalised jointly by IBM and TCS.

Pradyumna PS, IAS, Special Secretary, noted that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has instructed officials to fast-track the project and ensure timely implementation.

Patryk Gumann from IBM Quantum, USA, delivered a detailed presentation on the IBM Quantum System Two, outlining the system’s technical and infrastructural prerequisites. He also held consultations with L&T and government representatives to facilitate early deployment of the quantum infrastructure.
