A fresh controversy has sprouted up after the office of the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) was allegedly vandalised by members of Congress’s National Students Union of India (NSUI). The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) strongly condemned the attack, alleging that Abhi Dahiya, Vice President of DUSU, along with around 40 NSUI workers, vandalised the DUSU office.
The incident occurred between 3 and 4 am. Broken pieces of glass, LED, windows, and tables can be seen in the videos of the DUSU office. A statue of Lord Ram in the president’s office was also destroyed during the attack.
Witnesses reported that a group of individuals were “drunk” as they marched to the DUSU office before vandalising it. The attackers also damaged a water dispenser and a printer in the visitor room.
The ABVP described the incident as a disgraceful act of violence. Harsh Atri, ABVP’s Delhi State Minister, stated that ABVP would seek immediate action, planning meetings with the Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University and the Delhi Police Commissioner. The ABVP has demanded the arrest and dismissal of those responsible for the attack.
In response, DUSU Vice President Abhi Dahiya issued a statement accusing ABVP members of attacking his office. Dahiya claimed the assault was in retaliation for his exposure of a fake degree held by an ABVP office bearer and DUSU President Tushar Dedha. He alleged ABVP’s attempt to tarnish him and NSUI’s reputation, promising legal action to uncover the truth.
This incident has escalated tensions between ABVP and NSUI, prompting both parties to exchange serious accusations and urge university authorities and law enforcement to take stringent measures.
